How to play

You get one word. Add a word that connects to it, then one that connects to that, and keep going. The farther you end up from where you started, the better you score.

How a round works

1. Read the word. You get 10 seconds with it before the clock starts.
2. Type a word that connects to the last one. It can be related, part of it, or something that goes with it. You can’t reuse a word.
3. Beat the clock. Each link has a time limit. It starts at 25 seconds and gets shorter as your chain grows. If time runs out, or you tap “That’s far enough”, the round ends and you keep what you’ve built.

What adds distance

• Going far. The farther your chain gets from the start word, the more distance you earn. It’s measured in light-years, up to 1,000.
• Surprising links. A bold turn scores more than an obvious next step. Each link on the chart is coloured: white is ordinary, yellow is good, red is great.
• Keeping going. Longer chains score more.
• Changing subject. Moving on to a new topic earns a little extra.

Your rank

Your distance earns a rank: Homebody, then Wanderer (200 light-years), Explorer (400), Voyager (600), Pathfinder (750) and Far Out (850).

• A word the game doesn’t know just costs you time.
• Everyone gets the same word each day. When you share your result, each link is a circle: ⚪ ordinary, 🟡 good, 🔴 great.
